Letterboxes in the Rain

Holy Crap! It's been over a year?!?

Wasn't taken today - It was actually pouring today, but you get the idea

Letterbox Adventure May 8, 2015

Today is rainy, yesterday was rainy, in fact it's been raining all week and tomorrow it's suppose to snow which means only one thing spring has sprung here in Colorado!(Ya know - reviewing pics from the last three years, it's snowed on or around Mother's Day, I am now convinced it has to snow in May)
PROOF!! Last year on Mother's Day - SNOW!!
Our bi-polar weather keeps us on our toes sunny and seventy degrees one day and digging out of hail and driving on roads that have turned into mini-raging rivers the next. So I was surprised when I arrived at Courtney's and she told me told me there were three letterboxes we could go find despite the rain and the wet. (Yeah I researched it last night!)

These letterboxes were in the Asian Market parking lot. Even with rain we could brave a parking lot. So we made this little parking lot adventure our first stop on our day of rain, shopping, and fun. I drove us over to the Asian Market as Courtney proved once again her value as the worlds best navigator ever! (At least in my opinion she's better than a GPS any day and way more fun too!)(Aww Thanks! :3 You're fun too!)

We arrived safely and the rain was still falling but not as heavy as it had been earlier. We had to find an island in the parking lot which was fairly easy to do. The puddles and water flowing through the parking lot really emphasized the islands of big pretty bushes. Courtney checked her cell phone for instructions on how to find the letterbox and sure enough we were right by the correct island sporting a yellow water pipe. She pulled her coats hood over her hair(otherwise my badly dyed blue hair would have dripped blue dye all over the truck!) dawned her gloves and said wish me luck and bailed out of the truck and disappeared into the islands bushes only to come back a few seconds later empty handed and needed to review the instructions one more time. (There were multiple stumps!)
Then back into the bushes she went I waited in suspense and heard the ah-ha and she came back with the letterbox and a big smile on her face. She promptly handed me the wet and a bit dirty letterbox which sent me scrambling to find a napkin or two to dry this letterbox and remove the wet dirt. I did this as she jumped back in the truck and pulled out our stamp pads and book and recorded the date which there was some controversy over neither of us could remember if it was the ninth of May or the eighth and we settled on the eight. (Turns out we we're right the calendar said so.) The stamp log book was a slender one and Courtney wasn't sure our fluffy sheep was going to fit I said it would be a tight fit but it would work and it did. (still cut the top of his head off...) I haven't seen our sheep stamp in a few months and it was like seeing an old friend and one who's packed full of the hope and promise of many more adventures. The stamp inside the letterbox was super cute. We love the handmade stamps there is just so much talent into the creation of these little gems. We stamped it twice into our book because it was just to cute not too. Then cleaned off the stamp repacked it and Courtney dodged the raindrops to replanted it. (It was plenty muddy too... couldn't crouch under the bush so well.)

She returned and we were ready for the clues to the second letterbox. This clue lead us to another island this time with a street light particularly light number one. So we drove around the parking lot checking out one street light after another we did find street light 16 but that wasn't right and we were back where we started. So we made a second attempt went to the most obvious street light and we found it was labeled number one. Yay! Courtney leapt out of the truck (again!) and came back with the letterbox. (It was next to a sleeping bag and a giant spiderweb... yikes! Glad no one stole it.) Again I dried the letterbox before opening it and we loved the cute little stamp inside. We repacked and replanted this letterbox and feeling we were now masters of the parking lot we were well on our way to letterbox number three.
This is a bunny. Imagine two of this...
lol
A new area of the parking lot we hadn't yet been to and pulling into it I saw two adorably cute baby bunnies. I just love bunnies. I spotted the third boxes location rather quickly and Courtney went to find it she came back victorious handed me the letterbox and said this wasn't hidden well looked like someone chucked it back there like a grenade. (It was just ... there ... not hidden at all :( Like it was saying - HEY! OVER HERE!) That was not cool and I dried the letterbox and commented there was quite a bit of dirt under the lid.

Log book: yes - stamp: no
Still the contents were dry but sadly incomplete. Although the the log book was there the stamp was not. This was heartbreaking to say the least especially since it was the last cute part of this nesting doll trio. Courtney decided we shouldn't stamp our stamp into the log book instead she wrote sorry we missed you and the date and in our own book we jotted down the stamp was missing. Courtney took some pictures to document this sad discovery and so we could inform the creator of this box of the missing stamp.
So sad, so empty :(
We repacked and Courtney replanted the box returning to me and telling m she put a ton of pine needles over that thing. Which is how it was suppose to be covered. A little sad and disappointed in the loss of that third stamp(and it looked so cute too...) yet thrilled we found the other two we decided we spent so much time in the parking lot of the Asian Market that we really should go inside and check the place out.
Pandan swiss rolls!!!! YUMMMMM!
I personally have never been there before and Courtney hadn't been there in a while. There was many new and different things to see. We were both impressed with the amount and different varieties of soy sauce and the tins of tea captivated us too. And as we walked down these isles surrounded by labels in languages I don't understand, I remembered why we started finding letterboxes in the first place. Letterboxes are not only an awesome adventure but they are destined to open your mind to new places, sights, and sounds. And that's pretty nifty when you think about it.
